Bye Bye Fluffy

Bye Bye Fluffy

A few years ago I was at a party and someone I respected made a comment about my weight. Comments about my weight weren’t new, a comment from this person was. Two weeks later I received the photo below:

I almost didn’t recognise myself and it tarted me on the path to losing weight. This time though, I was losing weight for me and not the countless number of people that had decided it was their right and duty to comment on my weight or weight gain. The truth is at a size 12, I was being told that I was fat and need to do something about it. During university I played rugby and rowed in my final year. I was physically active. So when the comments continued after university, I decided that if people were going to comment on my size, them I might as well enjoy food, instead of watching what I was eating.  At my heaviest I was a size 22 UK size.

At this point I was no longer happy with my body image and became very self conscious. So I decided to do something about it. I starred exercising regularly and began to watch what I was eating once again. I’m now a size 16 Uk and even though I have done well so far, I am aware my journey is far from over. For me losing weight isn’t just about fitting into clothes that I like, it’s about feeling better about myself and feeling healthier.

The reason for starting this blog…you can also find me at Coaching in Jamaica is to find the strength and determination to accomplish my goal of losing weight. In Jamaica, the term fluffy is applied to those of us that are curvy and have extra weight. So this is where I will be sharing some of the challenges that I face on a regular basis and what I am doing to move forward and stay on track.

I know I’m not the only person that wants to say goodbye to their fluffy self, so if you like me are a work in progress and wish to share your story, please drop me a line. I will be sharing recipes and good practice that either I’ve found or someone has shared with me.

Whether you’re fluffy or not, the most important thing to remember is being comfortable with you and who you are.

Stay true to yourself and remain in your boat, you never know whose boat will follow and whose life you will save.

Thanks to you I now know that I need to be like water at times.
